- LOWEST PROFILE
Q) Which desk light has the lowest profile?
- A) The Microfluorescent T4 Light
Fixtures have dimensions of only 0.75 inches wide by 1.38 inches high.
- EASIEST to INSTALL
Q) Which desk light is the easiest to install?
- A) If a single light fixture is being installed, the Microfluorescent
T4 Light Fixture or the Fluorescent T5
Swivel Stick is probably the easiest to install. However, if a series of light
fixtures are being installed the Microfluorescent
T4 Light Fixtures, the Fluorescent
T5 Low-Profile Light Fixtures, and the Fluorescent
T5 SlimLite XL Light Fixtures are probably the easiest to install because they
are all "linkable" with easy-to-use flexible connectors.
- ADJUSTABILITY
Q) Once it’s installed which under cabinet light fixture can be adjusted?
- A) The Fluorescent T5 Swivel Stick can be adjusted after it’s installed. Once it's mounted the fixture can
rotate a full 180 degrees.
- NO FLICKERING
Q) Which desk lights turn on instantly with no flickering?
- A) All of the fluorescent light fixtures in this section turn on without
flickering because they all have instant start electronic ballasts. The Xenon
Low Voltage Task Lights, of course, turn on instantly.

Q) Which desk light produces light that is similar to incandescent light?
- A) The Xenon Low Voltage Task
Lights use xenon lamps (light
bulbs) which are incandescent light sources with a little bit of xenon gas introduced
into the glass envelope to help lengthen the life of the lamp. The Microfluorescent
T4 Light Fixtures produce light that is similar to incandescent light when
the T4 lamp used has a Color Temperature of 3000K.
- CONTROLLED by ONE SWITCH
Q) Which grouping of desk lights can be installed so that they all can be controlled
by one light switch?
- A) When several desk lights are being installed the Xenon
Low Voltage Task Lights, the Microfluorescent
T4 Light Fixtures, the Fluorescent
T5 Low-Profile Light Fixtures, the Fluorescent
T5 SlimLite XL Light Fixtures, and the Fluorescent
Thin-Inch Fixtures can all be controlled by only one light switch. Only a
group of Fluorescent T5 Swivel Sticks cannot
be controlled by one light switch.
- DIMMABLE
Q) Which desk light is dimmable?
- A) The Xenon Low Voltage Task
Lights are dimmable. None of the fluorescent desk lights can be dimmed.
- COOLEST
Q) Which desk light is the coolest?
- A) All of the fluorescent desk lights give off the least amount of
heat. Both the xenon and fluorescent desk lights are cooler than halogen desk
lights.
- HOTTEST
Q) Which desk light is the hottest?
- A) Any desk light that uses line voltage (120 volts) halogen lighting
is the hottest type of desk light. It is for that reason that we do not sell any fixtures of this type.
- MOST ENERGY EFFICIENT
Q) Which desk light is the most energy efficient?
- A) All of the fluorescent desk lights are the most energy efficient
to operate. Fluorescent fixtures are always more efficient than incandescent fixtures
including xenon fixtures.

- Our desk lights come in a variety of sizes, lamp wattages, and with two different
light sources - xenon and fluorescent.
- The Functionality of Desk Lights
- Desk lights are by their very nature quite functional by providing very good
and sometimes badly needed task lighting. Desk lighting can make any desk area
in an office, a kitchen, a den, or a hospital nurses' station a brighter, safer,
and more pleasant place to perform tasks.
- The Aesthetics of Desk Lights
- The light provided by desk lights has the ability to give both a professional
look and the look of warmth by providing another “layer of
light” to the work space. When desk lights are used properly they can give
the space a look as though a professional may have been involved with the lighting
design.
- The Light Sources In Desk Lights
- Desk lights may use xenon, halogen, fluorescent, or even traditional incandescent
light sources. Desk lights with any of these light sources might provide a good
deal of light, a modest amount of light, or just a hint of light. It is sometimes
a good idea to control the desk lights with a dimmer switch since this can provide
a good deal of lighting flexibility. This cannot usually be done with fluorescent
light sources but fluorescent lighting is generally the most efficient in providing
a given amount of light. Fluorescent light sources are also the coolest of all
the light sources.
- Where Can Desk Lights Be Used?
- Because of its small size a desk light simply cannot provide good ambient
lighting for a large space. Under cabinet desk lights can be used very successfully
wherever there are cabinets over a desk and a need for good task lighting on that
desk.
- Where Should Desk Lights Be Placed?
- Under cabinet desk lights should be installed at or near the front of the
cabinet to which it is attached. Your contractor may insist that you install it
near the back wall but we suggest that you insist that it be installed as close
to the face of the cabinet as possible. This position will provide the best and
safest task lighting for your desk.
